Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, supporting or buying anything Russian has been a big no-no. This includes one of Russia’s biggest exports: vodka. Americans are boycotting many Russian brands including Russian Standard, Beluga Gold, and Zyr. One brand that isn’t technically Russian but is still having a tough time in the world marketplace because of its name and history is Stoli.
The brand, which recently shortened its name from Stolichnaya to differentiate from the Russian state-owned version only available in Russia, was founded in Russia, but its owner Yuri Shefler left two decades ago, and the version of the vodka we get in the US (and most of the rest of the world) is based in Luxembourg and produced in Latvia. Still, the history with Russia is there.
That’s why Stoli felt the need to do something to show their support for the Ukrainian people. It’s doing this by releasing a limited-edition bottle in support of Ukraine. All proceeds from the vodka will go to the José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, a non-profit that has been meals to Ukrainian refugees and anyone sheltering in the bombarded country.
“As Ukrainians continue to suffer unimaginable losses, we are doing our small part to show unequivocal support,” Stoli Group CEO Damian McKinney said in a press release. “This Stoli Vodka bottle will not only provide financial resources to Ukraine but is also a symbol of solidarity.”
The bottle is adorned with an image of a dove carrying an olive branch on top of a mosaic of the blue and yellow hues of the Ukrainian flag with the words #LIBERATEUKRAINE.
If you’re a fan of vodka and you want to help out this important charity that’s embedded in Ukraine, you can buy one of these limited edition bottles and know that while you’re getting your drink on you’re doing some good too.
