Energy drinks aren’t good for you. We can all agree on this, right? In addition to massive amounts of caffeine and/or sugar and/or sugar substitutes and/or mystery additives, there’s nothing natural about that manic high they give you. (If coffee doesn’t give you a strong enough buzz, there’s something wrong with you, not coffee.)
Now, energy drink-guzzling TikTokers are whining en masse about heart problems, and say the companies behind these beverages are to blame.
Sage Weeber, a 24-year-old drummer, is one of them. He’s been downing energy drinks for two years and apparently, he has been diagnosed with early heart disease. He got that diagnosis after suffering from dizziness, fainting, arm numbness, and chest spasms.

Are these just cases of natural consequences? After all, “safe” caffeine consumption is limited to 400 milligrams a day according to the FDA. That’s between four and five cups of coffee. (Which is a lot! Don’t drink that much!)
Once you hit 600 milligrams, you’re at risk for increased heart rate, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal distress, and nausea. And we haven’t even touched on the sugar factor yet, which is a major contributor to heart disease. So, add those two factors together and you are really putting your heart through the wringer when you chug beverages that contain both caffeine and sugar.
Still, devotees are resistant to give them up.
“but it taste so good and the caffeine makes my brain go brrrr,” one person commented on Weeber’s TikTok.
“Here for a good time, not a long time,” someone else proclaimed.
“RedBull gives you wings. . . Straight to Heaven,” another observed.
The occasional energy drink isn’t going to give you heart issues (we assume; we’re not doctors, so don’t listen to us). But if you’re throwing back several energy drinks on the daily, you aren’t doing your body any favors. This seems pretty obvious to us, as anything in excess is probably not good for you.
You know what beverage won’t give you heart disease? Water! (We hope.)
