The 24TB TiVo Mega Lets You Record 26,000 Hours of TV

What on Earth would you do with 26,000 hours of recorded TV? That’s the question some (wealthy) TiVo customers will be trying to answer, as the company has announced its new pricey TiVo Mega DVR, which allows users to record roughly three years of TV. Yes, you read that right.

TiVo is billing the TiVo Mega as the “future of luxury home entertainment,” and at a predicted retail price of $5,000, it’s certainly got the luxury part nailed down. It’s obviously aimed towards a more niche market that will never want to delete any recorded shows from their DVR ever again, with its unprecedented 24TB of storage sure to pigue the interest of die-hard TV lovers.

The TiVo Mega can stream live and recorded shows to smartphones and tablets, along with providing access to the likes of Netflix and YouTube and universal search across cable and video-on-demand services.

TiVo CMO Ira Bahr said of the new DVR: “People hate being forced to delete cool stuff from their DVR before they want to or finding a TV show they had recorded is now gone. Now, with TiVo Mega they can always know their show or movie is still there to watch later.

“TiVo Mega offers more than twelve times the storage of any cable or satellite DVR. TiVo Mega is the solution for the power user who wants

to record everything.”

As you can probably tell from the above image, the TiVo Mega’s size would prevent it from sitting comfortably underneath most people’s TVs, unless you happen to be in ownership of the world’s largest entertainment center. However, with its huge storage, hot-swappable drives and 6 tuners for recording it certainly packs a lot into its monstrous chassis.

A prototype of the TiVo Mega will be demonstrated next week at the CEDIA Expo in Denver, with it releasing at some point until 2015. Until then you’ll just have to make do with your current DVRs that can only record 4,000 hours of TV, you peasants.
