Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that he has just one general rule that applies to any and all new hires he makes for the company… though it’s a pretty big rule.
Speaking at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the young billionaire said: “I will only hire someone to work directly for me if I would work for that person. It’s a pretty good test and I think this rule has served me well.”
That may sound like a relatively simple test to pass in theory, but I’d wager that there are very few people who Zuckerberg would actually want to work for, if my knowledge about the man based upon watching The Social Network is anything to go by. Which it probably isn’t.

Zuckerberg continued: “Facebook is not a company for everyone in the world. The most important thing is to keep your team as small as possible. [Facebook] serves more than a billion people around the world but our team has fewer than 10,000 people.
“It’s only possible because of modern technology. Big companies get bloated.”
He also had some wise words when it came to offering budding entrepreneurs some advice on how to get started with their fledgling business, saying:“When you’re young you hear that you don’t have experience to do things, that there are people that have more experience than you. I started Facebook when I was 19.
“Don’t discount yourself, no matter what you’re doing. Everyone has a unique perspective that they can bring to the world.”
As someone who spent my nineteenth year on this planet making coffee for people I hated whilst copywriting for a tax return company, I can honestly say that I had neither the experience, motivation or skill to create another Facebook, but if I would have read Zuckerberg’s uplifting statement back then I probably would’ve at least opted to make better cappuccinos.
