Don’t Fly Your Drone Close to the White House

The offending drone. Not pictured, one foolish operator.

Around lunch time on Thursday, a man in Washington D.C. thought it would be absolutely splendid to fly his drone a bit. What he didn’t consider though (or…didn’t care about?), was the fact that he was terribly, awfully close to the White House (he was even standing on the corner of Pennsylvania Ave!). You know, that place where United States President Barack Obama conducts his affairs and those of America in general.

Oh, and there’s a huge “No Drone Zone” around Reagan National Airport. A fifteen-mile radius, to be exact. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, mind you. Back in January, a National Geospatial Intelligence Agency employee drunkenly crash-landed a DJI Phantom drone into one of the trees that’s on the White House lawn.

One has to ask oneself, what are the virtues of flying small aircraft around a highly-guarded government installation? Because of idiots making choices like this, we can’t even fly kites around the White House of Capitol Building. This is why we can’t have nice things, people.
