COLLECTIONS | Nasir Mazhar – Spring/Summer 2016

When Nasir Mazhar designed hats for the 2012 Summer Olympics’ Opening Ceremony Club Scene, who knew that he would debut his collection during London Fashion Week in 2013? Talk about having great opportunities to show off your work. Nasir Mazhar designs clothing for men and women and for this season of Men’s London Fashion Week he stayed true to his signature British grime, garage and dancehall looks.

This greatly anticipated collection, debuted on Day 1 of Men’s LFW and focused on black and grey grunge pieces as well as his iconic accessories. From the hat, neckwear and face mask (reminiscent of something straight out of Mad Max: Fury Road) in the opening look to backpacks and faux bullet proof vests, the Spring/Summer 2016 presentation offered a feeling of touch and technicality. It’s the perfect combination of street wear and luxury.

You gotta love track suits right? Mazhar’s got them; just in a slightly different, more interesting way. Sure, they’re comfortable to wear but when fabrications and design elements are added like nylon and rouching, that changes the game. Following his Father’s recent death of only a few months ago, his SS16 designs clearly showed not only a pained present in the monochromic style but also an evolution of the brand from previous seasons. Even his his most iconic accessory, the Bully Cap, which customers didn’t seem to originally take to, now sells out every season.

Nasir Mazhar has a host of notable stateside fans, as you could imagine, ranging from the likes of trendsetters like Rihanna and Erykah Badu. Even Lady GaGa has worn his hats in the past. Although many of the looks would be definitely be considered for a niche customer base, even the most conservative guy who’s looking to break out of his “fashion rut” could find something to add a bit of grunge-like flair to his closet.
