New York Fashion Week | Alexander Wang: Spring Summer 2016

The years really seem to fly by when you’re having fun. Such is the case with Alexander Wang,as he celebrated the 10th anniversary of his collection. It seems like only yesterday, certainly not an entire decade ago, that we were first introduced to Wang and his very downtown-cool designs. Although he will be missed as he makes his departure from Balenciaga, watching him return to his design roots and continue to strengthen his own label will be interesting, to say the least. And we aren’t the only ones watching from the side lines – front row at his show were Kanye West, Lady Gaga and Mary J. Blige.

Alexander Wang has just what that downtown chic customer craves, from leather pants to mixed media shirts and everything in between. This Spring Summer 2016 collection was very relaxed and included plaid shirts with leather patchwork, athletic inspired suiting, mesh, hoodies, leather shorts, and overalls for good measure. Every look felt perfectly disorganized, which is the very aesthetic that made Alexander Wang so popular in the first place.

The show concluded with a video montage down memory lane, taking the showgoers back in time from Alexander Wang’s very first show to the revolutionary “caged-face” collection. He summed it up perfectly in the film, “I always had the fantasy of working in fashion. I just never thought it would take me this far, so soon.” And with that, it was time to celebrate. Off to the exclusive after party (sponsored by Hooter’s), where stripper poles made an appearance and performances by Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Tinashe and A$AP Rocky ensued. Now that’s cool.
