They say everything is bigger in Texas, and while that’s debatable, one thing is definitely better: the way they screen the new installment of the Batman franchise. That’s because, during a recent showing of The Batman, a male audience member allegedly released a live bat in the theater.
It all went down in Austin on Friday during a 7 p.m. showing of the new feature film following the Caped Crusader at the Austin Moviehouse & Eatery by Cinépolis. That’s when viewers saw a real-life bat flying around the theater. Employees tried to remove the winged creature but were unsuccessful, so animal control was contacted.
Guests were offered a refund for the showing, but most decided to stay and stick it out. The venue later claimed the incident involved a dude who “tried to pull a prank.”
General Manager Heidi Deno told KXAN that “we will be adding additional security and checking all bags upon guest entry” to prevent such an occurrence from happening again.
We don’t see what the problem is, really. The bat surely added to the ambiance of the viewing experience. And it could have been worse. Don’t make us relive The Dark Knight Rises tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, from 2012. In comparison, releasing a bat during a movie is kind of quaint.
