The Hillside Festival in Guelph kicks off tonight, and the three-day event is boasting performances by award-winning duo Tegan & Sara as well as Kevin Drew, Royal Canoe, Hollerado’s Pup, Kim Churchill, and Basia Bulat on one of five musical stages.
Imelda May will take to the main stage on Saturday, and Hey Rosetta! out of Newfoundland will close the event on Sunday night. The eclectic music event also has drum and dance sessions, spoken word presentations, and workshops (such as “Modern Dance for Every Body” and “Roller Derby Demystified”). There will be a food bazaar as well with a wide range of local food vendors.
Guelph native Steph Yates of Esther Grey, who first played the Hillside Festival two years ago, told the local press that she feels a lot more confident going into this year’s show. “It was terrifying two years ago. I think we’ll be in better shape this year,” she said to the Guelph Mercury. “We were such a new band two years ago, I felt like ‘what am I doing up here?’ It was all very new. “We’re a little more comfortable in our skin up there with our respective instruments. We gel a little bit more,”
This is the 31st installment of the Hillside Festival. Ticket are now on sale and prices range from $66.67-$135. Visit the Hillside Festival website for more info.
