Soundwave chief AJ Maddah has indicated we might see the hotly anticipated Soundwave 2016 lineup as early as July this year. Get excited.
When asked by a Twitter follower when the festival’s lineups “usually get announced”, Maddah responded with “July” – which is actually around a month earlier than festival’s usual announcement time.
The first Soundwave 2015 lineup was delivered to us around mid-August last year, around the same time the Soundwave 2014 lineup was announced the year before.
While Maddah did not elaborate on his answer, the reason for the early lineup announcement, should it eventuate, could be because the festival itself is taking place much earlier than usual next year.
Taking over the Big Day Out’s usual slot in the Australian festival calendar, Soundwave 2016 will kick off in Brisbane on Saturday 23rd January, followed by a stop in Sydney on Sunday 24th January and will finish up in Melbourne on the Australia Day Public Holiday of Tuesday 26th January 2016.
A couple of bands are already firming up for a place on the Soundwave 2016 bill, including Australia’s Northlane and Violent Soho, plus US supergroup We Are Harlot, fronted by ex-Asking Alexandria frontman Danny Worsnop. Maddah also recently suggested that the 2016 festival could feature just one headliner. Hopefully we’ll be getting confirmation on all these details by July this year.
