The New Thor & Alien Movies Will Be Shot In Australia

In news bound to trigger a collective geek-gasm powerful enough to shake the very tectonic plates upon which our fair nation perches, Australia will soon be crawling with Aliens and Asgardians.

No, it’s not the apocalypse. It’s the newest Thor and Alien blockbusters, which are both set to be filmed Down Under next year.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop made the announcement at a press conference today, saying she’s put a lot of effort into snagging the mega-budget productions for Australia.

“During recent visits to both Los Angeles and New York, I met with senior executives of major film and production houses, with Walt Disney Company, Marvel, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Village Roadshow, NBC Universal and directors Ridley Scott and Brett Ratner, who all expressed a very keen desire to invest in significant new film production projects right here in Australia,” the artful J-Bish proclaimed (via the ABC) before throwing to a teleconference with HOLY SHIT THAT’S RIDLEY SCOTT

Scott will direct the new Alien film, dubbed Paradise Lost, while Thor will obvies once again star godly babe Chris Hemsworth (the cool one).

The flicks will cost a modest $475 million dollarydoos to produce, and a predicted $300 million of that will be invested directly into the Oz economy.

The productions are also expected to bring in a whopping 3,000 local jobs.

And though the exact filming locations have yet to be announced, Bishop said: “Sir Ridley Scott told me he knows the Fox Studios very well and knows New South Wales well, so we’re hoping for some good news there.”

You may commence distinctly feminine screaming.
