Remember John Ripple? He was a 70-year-old Kansas man who decided one day out of the blue to rob a bank. But it was the reason why he robbed the bank that made him national news. Why did he do it? To get away from his wife because, as Ripple put it, “he’d rather be in jail than at home.” Well guess what? Ripple has been sentenced.
Ripple went on to plead guilty to robbing the bank, but he and his attorney asked the judge for leniency. Ripple’s lawyer told the judge that Ripple, who didn’t have a criminal record before robbing a bank, was suffering from depression after undergoing a quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2015. And the robbery was pretty much a “cry for help.”
That Man Who Robbed A Bank To Get Away From His Wife Was Only Given House Arrest
“Mr. Ripple understands what he did and he respects the law as indicated by his past behavior,” Ripple’s attorney stated.
Well, that was enough to sway the judge because Ripple was sentenced to six months of house arrest and three years of supervised probation.
But now Ripple is going to be stuck with his wife for six months — the same wife he committed a crime simply to get away from. I think that punishment is way worse than the 37 months behind bars he was facing.
