Being a politician isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. For one thing, you have to make public appearances in unusual places and things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes, you end up being a source of mockery…or even better, memes.
We offer up in example a recent visit that German chancellor Angela Merkel made to a bird park in Marlow, which is located in the northern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. She made the stop in support of her center-right Christian Democratic Union party.
While in the park, she posed for pics holding bird food, to which several Australian rainbow lorikeets flocked. But birds being birds, they eventually stopped noshing on the food and started nibbling her, which led to a hilarious image of Merkel’s pained face by Georg Wendt, a photographer with the DPA news agency.

Luckily for Merkel, she isn’t running for office again; in fact, she’s retiring. Political life is, quite literally, for the birds.
