Early Winners For Canadian Screen Awards Announced

The first two of three galas for the Canadian Screen Awards have taken place, and accolades were handed out in the categories of news and sports, documentary, lifestyle, reality and digital media, Canadian drama, comedy and children’s programming.

Political funnyman Rick Mercer and his self-titled CBC show “The Rick Mercer Report” as well as “Amazing Race Canada” received a total of three awards, while “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” won for best writing in a variety or sketch comedy program or series. The popular Space network show “Orphan Black” raked in eight awards, and Food Network Canada’s “You Gotta Eat Here” topped out in best lifestyle series and best direction in a lifestyle series.

The third Canadian Screen Award gala will take place at the Sony Centre for Performing Arts in Toronto this Sunday night.
