Deadpool is such a blast when he’s on – and with Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, he’s ON.
It’s time to go digital if you haven’t already, because the weekly Infinite Comic series Deadpool: The Gauntlet has hit #11, and it’s a barnburner – if you think that burning barns is a good time. Also, the events are going to play a huge role in the main book, so you should get on board as soon as you can – also because Infinite Comics are a cool format.
Case in point, this issue proves that comics can have opening credit sequences and skirt the line between animation and sequential art… although I suppose you could claim that animation is nothing but super-fast sequential art.
Also, it’s a GIANT MONSTER FIGHT, with Deadpool vs. Frankenstein as the main event that winds through the entire issue, with occasional sidefights with random undead goons, vampires, dino-monsters, and even Blade. It seems Dracula is out for blood because Deadpool took too long in delivering his bride Shiklah, but now that Shiklah knows that Dracula’s a bastard who killed her brothers, she pulled a fast one and married Deadpool instead. Seeing as how Dracula was trying to get married in order to gain control of her monster hordes, only to kill her once it happened, Dracula’s a bit peeved by this development – but moreso that he was cuckolded by Deadpool. There you are, folks! Important continuity developments! And Dracula hates Deadpool!
There’s a moment in the middle of a crazy monster mash, after Blade shows up to help and Deadpool has called in the Thunderbolts – aka “The Selfish Avengers” – to pitch in and bust heads that he just barks “This is awesome! I wasn’t around when ‘Inferno’ went down, but this must be what it looked like.” And right then, you realize “Yes. Yes, this is, in fact, awesome.” Especially with Reilly Brown and the amazing Scott Koblish handling the art duties, which includes juggling a massive cast of weirdos and monsters. There’s also a point where Frank Castle says “I hate this Halloween shit,” and if there isn’t a Frankencastle reference before the day is out, I’ll be disappointed. Because you know, he was Frankencastle for a while.
