At the beginning of the Marvel NOW! relaunch, Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn’s Deadpool quickly become one of the fan favorite titles. The “Merc With a Mouth” went on to get married and Fox even signed off on the Deadpool movie after it spent years in development hell.
But in April, Marvel is killing Deadpool off in Deadpool # 250 (which is also issue 45 of the Marvel NOW! Deadpool title). Hilariously, the initial report at Nerdist insists that “they are killing Deadpool once and for all.”
Right… I’m sure that everyone believes that Deadpool will stay dead only as long as it takes for Marvel to once again fully exploit one of their franchise characters. The Death of Deadpool is just another in a long line of publicity stunts designed to boost sales in the short term.
But at least the creative team for the final oversized issue of Deadpool sounds like fun. In addition to the main story by Duggan and Posehn, Scott Aukerman, Ben Acker, Ben Blacker, Nick Giovanetti, Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzoukas and Mike Drucker are contributing short stories about Deadpool’s supporting cast with artists Mike Hawthorne, Scott Koblish and others to be announced.

The primary story of Deadpool # 250 will revolve around Deadpool’s final battle with Ultimatum, while a full length backup story will deal with Deadpool in possession of the Infinity Gauntlet. The final third of the issue will feature the previously mentioned short stories by the rotating guest creative team.
While speaking with Nerdist, Duggan said “In all honesty, the story that you’re going to get in Deadpool #250, is a story that we really have been building to since the first issue of Deadpool NOW. And it will absolutely feel – it will feel, I hope, readers will think that this is an appropriate end for this Deadpool.”
Duggan added that “We’ve tied in with some events – the last couple, we did Axis and we did Original Sin, and I think both of those were very good opportunities for Deadpool. It’s not like we’re sort of doing this just to do it. We’re doing it because it makes sense.”
