When “Boardwalk Empire” returns for its fifth and final season this fall, seven years will have passed since the end of the previous season. It’s 1931 and the Great Depression is fully underway. As Nucky tries to navigate the perilous waters of his wife, HBO’s first full length trailer for “Boardwalk Empire” Season 5 suggests that the law may finally be catching up to Nucky’s former nemesis, Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon).

This season, “Boardwalk Empire” will only get eight episodes instead of its usual 12. Series creator Terence Winter is refocusing on his upcoming ’70s era Rock N Roll drama alongside Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese. That series will likely premiere on HBO in 2015.
