Local reporters have been saying for weeks that Jim Harbaugh will be out in San Francisco at season’s end due to the poor relationship with upper management. However, many have questioned where the successful coach will land. Could it be his alma mater?
According to new reports, Harbaugh could be looking at an offer from the Michigan Wolverines: six years, $49 million.
The deal would give him a paycheck worth over $8 million per year, making him the highest paid coach in college football — even ahead of Alabama’s Nick Saban. Not bad for a guy who’s never been to a National Championship.
Some question if Harbaugh will take the offer however.
Another person close to the process said that while it was possible Harbaugh could wind up at Michigan, “it was not likely.”
Asked why he was considering it now, but hadn’t been previously, one person said now that the 49ers are out of the playoffs, it was possible for Harbaugh to at least consider the offer.
Word is that the Oakland Raiders were hoping to lure Harbaugh to the other side of the bay. Some in the biz suggest that would be a good move considering the coach wouldn’t have to move his family.
On the other hand, Michigan is going all-in here. They only have Ace high, but they have a large bank roll. They’re desperate. Believe it or not, Forbes already released an article as to why Harbaugh should reject the offer.
But if you’re Harbaugh, it would be hard to say no to almost $50 million dollars in a much cheaper state to live.
