After a long bout of free agency (since last summer), Ray Allen has officially called it quits for the remainder of the season. Here’s the words straight from his mouth:
Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me. I’ve ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I’m going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming off-season, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season.
This announcement comes a couple weeks late, considering ESPN was informed that he’d be telling all regarding his decision right around the all-star break.
There is obviously a large amount of interest in Allen from several NBA teams, but it appears that the all-time NBA 3-point leader needs more time than previously thought to assess his future and consider possibly retiring or jumping once more into the fray.
He’s had a long and storied career, so there’d be no shame at all in bowing out, if that is indeed what he decides on.
Hat tip to NESN for the update on Ray Allen’s status.
