Ford has revealed it will release the final Falcon model under the title FG X while the 2014 Territory SUV will be known as the SZ II.
A refreshed version of the FG line first released in 2008, the Falcon FG X will roll out later this year with the manufacturer paying homage to a number of the brand’s more memorable models.
Ford released rear-end images of the Falcon FG X on Thursday after first having shown off the revamped face (below) back in July.
The line code is a running tribute to the ‘Fairmont’ and ‘Ghia’ designs while the ‘X’ marks the link between a number of the manufacturer’s historical models; popular variants including the XR, XW, XY, XA, XB, XD and XF which ran for a thirty-year period starting in the 1960s.
The new Falcon will be the last vehicle produced in Australia before the company closes shop in 2016.
“As one of the country’s most recognised nameplates, Ford wanted to make sure this celebration Falcon was worthy of the FG X name,” Ford Australia president and CEO Bob Graziano said.
“Our Falcon customers know our story, so it is appropriate we acknowledge for them, enthusiasts and all Australians that Falcon is a significant part of the fabric of the Australian cultural landscape.”
Ford also declared the new SZ II will follow the current Territory model and include X, TS and Titanium variants.
Pricing and specification for both models have yet to be released and are expected to be announced closer to the predicted December release date.
