Arachnophobia is a legit fear from many people worldwide and that’s a bit of a bummer because spiders are literally everywhere. Unless you spend your time at the bottom of the ocean (and there are other terrifying things down there) you’re going to run into a spider or two on a fairly regular basis. But, while there are spiders everywhere, most of them are tiny and harmless. But, while most are small and forgettable, some aren’t. This is the case in Australia, a country well-known for its outlandish, nightmare spiders.
Recently, a zoo in Australia received an anonymous donation. The zookeepers at Australian Reptile Park were surprised when they opened the container and found a ridiculously huge “mega spider.” It was a funnel-web spider, which is usually 1 to 5 centimeters in length, this one was 1.9 inches long.
The nightmare fuel spider was donated by someone in the Sydney/New South Wales area anonymously. We can only assume the fear that must have overtook them when they discovered this monster and someone forced it into a plastic food container. While most spiders would be simply released into a backyard, we assume they were fearful this beast would make its way back into their home.
Not only is the spider almost two inches long, but the zoo also said its fangs are a ridiculous 8 inches long. It’s the biggest funnel spider anyone at the park has ever come across. This is yet another reason to avoid the wild, crazy continent of Australia for the foreseeable future.
