Meanwhile in Florida: Stowaway Emerges From Wheel Well of Plane After Landing, Still Wants His Free Peanuts

Some people will do anything to get a cheap flight – but one man went above and beyond in trying to save some cash in the friendly skies. That’s because one dude hid inside the wheel well of an American Airlines plane all the way from Guatemala to Miami, Florida.

After a three-hour flight, the 26-year-old stowaway emerged at Dade Airport. He appeared disheveled and disoriented. Video of his arrival went viral on Twitter.

The person recording the video can be heard saying in Spanish, “Poor man. He just got here. Let him sit. Water! Bring water for him.” Then he asks the stowaway, “Are you okay? How do you feel?”

A worker can be overheard talking in English on a cellphone, saying, “Yeah, he survived. He survived.”

According to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, the man “attempted to evade detection in the landing gear compartment of an aircraft arriving from Guatemala.” While the incident is under investigation, the agency warned in a statement that “persons are taking extreme risks when they try to conceal themselves in confined spaces such as an aircraft.”

Aside from the fall factor, the air temperature alone could probably kill someone if they attempted this feat. Temperature ranges from -40° F to -70° F at cruising altitude – and this guy was not dressed for such weather.

While Twitter commenters felt that this daredevil deserved a green card for his ballsy immigration efforts, we feel like the least the U.S. could do is offer him some free peanuts after the ride. It seems only fair to comp him a snack given how turbulent the flight must have been. Next time, sir, consider folding yourself into someone’s carry-on instead; it’s gotta be more comfortable than a wheel well.
