iPhone Software Update May Let You Control Household Appliances

Apple is planning on releasing an iPhone software update that will let you control household appliances with your smartphone device.

In a report on The Financial Times, it was stated that Apple is working with multiple third-party smart product makers to allow the iPhone to connect with appliances in a user’s home. It was stated that this technology could even make the lights detect when the user is at the front door, and automatically turn on the lights for them.

The technology would obviously need to be introduced to the appliances, too, but with smart home technology on the rise then it’s easy to foresee this being implemented sooner rather than later, with big-name companies such as Google already investing in the tech.

The software update is also said to be coming to the iPad, with the tablet also being turned into a universal remote for your home. Apple has reportedly indicated that it is taking privacy concerns onboard, though as there has been no official announcement regarding the update as of yet, it is unclear how they will avoid the possibility that users’ homes could be transformed into HAL-esque nightmares. We don’t want to be held prisoner by our washing machine, Apple.
