Meanwhile in Texas: Teacher Becomes Latest Hot Mic Calling Students ‘Utter Morons’ (Technically That Does Fall Under History)

We give this teacher an A+ for honesty…though her superiors don’t seem to feel the same way.

A first-year educator at Harry Wright Junior High School in the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District in Richmond, Texas, was recently put on leave after being caught on video calling her students morons.

“If I have to keep dealing with kids that are complete and utter morons, I’m done. I’m literally done,” she says in the video, obtained by KHOU. “I want to be fired at this point. I literally am going to hurt myself if I have to keep coming here. I have never in my life dealt with kids that are so awful that, if they fell into a river, I would let them float away.”

Who made the video – and why – is still unclear, but it went viral on social media, and the next day, the teacher was put on leave.

“We were made aware of a video circulating on social media where a Wright Junior High School teacher is making disturbing comments,” the district said in a statement. “Of course, we take this very seriously and are actively investigating this situation … Parents trust us with their students every day and, unfortunately, the actions of a single person have the potential to breach that trust.”

Zeph Capo, the president of the Texas American Federation of Teachers, came to the instructor’s defense. “Right now, it’s a time for grace. You know, it does sound like she needs to exit out and take a break,” he said. “We should never be at a place where we let our personal feelings get to that point, particularly in front of kids.”

Parents were less than sympathetic to the teacher’s plight.

“It’s ridiculous,” parent Lucy Martinez told KHOU. “Really if she doesn’t like what she does, why be a teacher?”

We’re going to go out on a limb here and guess that since everything’s bigger in Texas, maybe the students there are extra big assholes? Either way, we still think the teacher is totally entitled to her opinion…and probably isn’t even wrong. Still, she learned a valuable lesson: if you’re going to talk shit about your students, make sure there aren’t any recording devices around…
